On Rue Jean-Jaurès, a short walk from Talensac market, Bistrot Jean Jaurès seats about twenty (sixteen at tables, four at the counter). There is no fixed menu: the chef writes one set menu each day around the catch and the market. Expect line-caught fish aged in-house, lacto-fermented vegetables, ember cooking and smoking, and no meat. Natural wines and fermented drinks on the side. Note the rhythm: lunch on even-numbered weeks (Tue–Fri, €30), dinner on odd-numbered weeks (Wed–Sat, €50, five courses).
Born in 1978 in Normandy, Bertrand Lacroix came to food through music. He moved to Nantes in 2005 as a record dealer (Bug 909), became a DJ and producer known as Môme, played from Berlin to Montreal, and spent six years programming Le Nid atop the Tour Bretagne. Car mechanic, skatepark manager, radio host: his path is anything but straight. In 2020 he created Franquette, a festival whose line-up was chefs, then Trinquette. In 2025 he took over the former A Carioca and turned it into the JJ.

The décor is by Nantes artist Jules Maillard, a painter of sea life and a wine lover, so the room feels like stepping into one of his canvases.
Google rating 5.0/5 (38 reviews, Oct 2026). Diners praise the at-home feel, the chef cooking in front of them to his own playlist, precise seasoning, freezer-free aged fish and the warm welcome. Recommended by Petit Futé 2026 and Les Tables de Nantes.
