Amandine Thonnard

Stippling (dotwork) drawing, tattoo

Amandine Thonnard draws dot by dot: thousands of tiny ink dots build up shadow, volume and texture, a technique known as stippling or dotwork. Her subjects range from animals, such as a massive gorilla in deep blacks, to classical sculpture, with a version of Rodin's Kiss in white ink on black paper, and freer studies of faces where the drawing seems to dissolve. She brings the same technique to skin in dotwork tattoos, such as this stippled angel on a leg. Follow her work on Instagram (@pistachedine).
